The First of the Yard Bunnies of 2013

I was out walking Jorji, my little foster dog, one evening a few night ago. I was a bit later getting home than anticipated, so I turned on the front porch light and walked him in the front. And who was out there but a very chubby wild bunny eating the greens on the front lawn. So much warm weather and everything is pretty green here even on the third week of January. In fact this little bunny was so chubby if I had not known he was wild, I would have thought he might have been someones well fed pet rabbit. It was really sort of cool though to imagine that the rabbit was dining in the porch light like someone who was dining at a restaurant courtyard in the evening. Ive always had a sort of fondness for bunnies.  One year I painted rabbit after rabbit and even though I do paint far more horses it was my rabbits that seemed to sell best that year.

My Fall White Barn and Pond really shine in  two treasuries on Etsy by Art Walk Etsy Team Members. I'm very grateful that they found it beautiful. The painting is  based on a little farm I have frequently passed over the years when traveling to visit my family in The north Shenandoah Valley.

The beautiful horse barns at Ashby farm  located between Markam and Deleplane in Fauquier County, Virginia have always fascinated me. They are tucked in next to a small mountain with traditional working horse barns that are easily seen from  interstate 55.

I suppose in my mind I have reveled at the beauty of this farm ad thought to myself what a beautiful place to have horses and grow food. The house is more like those traditional houses that started out as a log cabin but as time when on substantial add-ons let to a more elegant sprawling home. Not a plantation house but something more worthy of a successful working farm with flowering fruit trees that bordered its drive to the main house. They are so beautiful in spring white the rest of the property is spattered with dog wood, redbud and variations of  lime and yellow-greens of the newly budded trees and undergrowth.  Gosh I sound like a real-estate sales person.   But alas its only the esthetic beauty of the place that drives my fascination to photograph it and paint it in one of my “photography drive by shootings”.

What exactly is a Photographic drive by shooting? Well it involves a camera, a car, vigilance and a certain amount of discretion, because you don’t want to invade privacy.  The pint of a photographic drive by shooting is to capture a vignette that can later be used in a painting especially when you really don’t know the people or even how to contact them, yet that beautiful section of dramatic and peaceful scenery is really an important part of your life.  A place like this becomes a part of your life because everyday you travel by it for years at a time either as  a commuter or on your frequent travel home trips when you work in one locations but have family some miles away in another location. 

You sorrow when its seems less prosperous.  You revel in renovations and successes and imagine what the exterior only hints at. And even though you know you probably won’t eventually have some intimate knowledge of what is inside, the possibility always exists that you will.

Bozena is an extremely creative Fabric Artist From Poland. She says, that when she saw my painting with the beautiful reflective pond, that it inspired her to put together this wonderful collection by Etsy Artisans of autumn greens.

This particular farm has been a part of my life for over 30 years. I have seen it through its active days as a breeding and training horse farm,  its days of dereliction as the economy turned against large working farms, its subsequent listing and sale and its current make over as a fast growing stop on the Virginia Vineyard trail. This infant winery is Ashby House Farm Vineyard?? Ok it has Ashby in its name  some where.. because, well, the Civil War Hero  Col. John Ashby really got around. And I think this might have either been  a “where he slept “ sort of thing or he and his family actually owned it at some point.

Truth is its historic mystic is not nearly as important to me as my own experience day dreaming about its aesthetic potentials. =0)

Shirley's Books LLC : First Animation

Last night I began work on a  video advertising project for  a new online business.  Shirley's Books LLC just begain selling online on Amazon over the summer. They sell new, slightly used , very used and vintage books of every kind. As Shirley says: Books, Books, Books!The first thing I have to do for it before making the stills is to create several graphics that will give the video flavor and uniqueness as well as run through the entire video. The graphics will also be animated gifs that Shirley's Books LLC can use in their blog and website.

These first graphics are cartoons that had to be rendered from scratch by hand, scanned, colored through one of my programs then animated. Here is the first:

This process from start to finished stills and this sample gif took about 4 to 5 hours. I have to say while the process is a bit long with this type of animation, I get really excited to watch the results when its all put together. This is just another amazing part of the entire creative process I love.

Lakeland Revival.

Something was differnt tonight. Like there was some sort of sadness and struggle going on. Todd seemed to be struggling and moving in his own effort. The worship time was different too. It was vintage I-hop Kansas City. We delight in the Lord when we praise him.. the music seemed to be about what we could get from God, not what we should give to him..

Grant it we cant give much .. because we dont have much to give .. except praise....

I will praise you O Lord from early morning, I will recount your excellent greatness, The stars and moon were crafted by your hands. The sun, the sky the sea. Each of my thoughts will turn to you and all you have done in your mercy and grace.

I am but a tiny spot on a small speck and yet your thoughts are with me, your hand guides me with your favor. I reach out to you, My God, my King ,Lord of Everything; Humbly I cry out to you to fill me with more of yourself so that I will not depart from you but will willingly cling to the God who loves me and is my everything.

Thank-you Jesus.

Eagles and Fish: Lakeland Florida Outpouring Inspired Art

The first night of the venue change to the Tiger's Stadium in Lakeland, Florida as the opening announcements were being made, suddenly three eagles with fish in their mouths astonished the crowd by flying over the ball field. The God TV camera panned to the trees the three had landed in and like some amazingly timed prophetic symbol all the world could see them sitting in the trees on the other side of the stadium.

I wasn't a first hand witness, I watched it on my computer with 100 million people in 156 countries. Its an interesting end time twist. That we can see this amazing outpouring in a History making proportion on line, over the air ways, linked by satellites. But its not the same as being there. I'm there in spirit until God changes something in my life. I'm there praying for everyone concerned, partnering a widows might of intercession. and Sitting here in Remington Virginia painting my heart, documenting what I see and what I experience. Crazy...maybe .. but in reality God has no limits. I'm so loving it. The back log of commissions I am working are getting daily attention too. My painting is getting better for it.
